The value for money surprised wine specialist Dave McIntyre.

The red wine “Pioneiro”, by Venâncio da Costa Lima, was elected by the prestigious North American newspaper Washington Post as the “Choice of the Year”, in a list that recognizes the best wines produced worldwide. In Portugal, this acclaimed wine is sold exclusively in Intermarché stores.

The quality-price ratio surprised the wine specialist Dave McIntyre. This is a complex red wine, with a recommended retail price in Portugal of just €3.99.

It occupies the first place and is also the only Portuguese wine on the list of the 12 best “finds” of 2021, a selection carefully made by the author, who, throughout the year, tasted more than 255 wines from all over the world.

This is already the fifth year of the best wines list, compiled by the journalist.

Dave McIntyre, also a well-known fan of Port wine, was impressed with the interconnection and development of flavors in the following days, distinguishing “Pioneiro” as a great buy to be the house red in the first months of 2022.
